I may be mistaken, but I believe I was present the first time Karl Worley & Matt Lackey met. A group of food friends gathered at Flyte’s bar for a few drinks and conversation, and chef Lackey sent out some plates of crispy pig eared goodness. The chefs talked shop and a mutual admiration was found. Or maybe just a mutual admiration for bourbon.
Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to try their food on many occasions, and though their concepts are quite different, their standards are the same. They’re both small town Southern boys who are committed to using what grows around them.
When Nashville Lifestyles magazine launched the concept for Food, Wine & Design, it made complete sense to pair these fellas together. Matt has been on the national scene throughout 2013, gaining awards & recognition for his work, and Karl was the unanimous winner of the Savor Nashville Challenge to the Chefs. Both of them tend to have a glint of mischief in their eyes, and I know they have some tricks up their sleeves.
In fact, they’re going to roll up their sleeves & go fishing tomorrow night when they present “Feast of the Fish” at Food, Wine & Design. I’ve heard rumors about how they’re sourcing some of this seafood, and I do believe it’s going to be as fresh as possible (as in, the fish may just be swimming). This concept will inspire the entire evening, include a lavishly decorated room at the new Omni Hotel.
It’s rare I get out on a weeknight, but I will not miss this dinner. You shouldn’t either. However…if you do, I have great news. There’s a second night with a completely different couple of chefs – and an all new concept – on Wednesday, November 13. Chefs Deb Paquette and Steven Robillo are taking folks to Spain. I’ve never been, but I kinda like the music.
